Ryanair has daily flights from London Stansted
to Carcassonne and Perpignan. In the summer 2 flights a day and in the winter
1 a day. They also have flights from Brussels to Carcassonne and a new schedule
from Scotland, Glasgow Prestwick to Girona, North of Barcelona in Spain. See
the Ryanair website for details There are also regular flights to airports
a bit further afield, e.g. Toulouse and Montpellier. You can easily get car
hire at all these airports with Hertz, Avis, Budget and some smaller car rental
companies.

Esperaza is about a 30-40 minute drive from Carcassonne and about 1
hour 10 minutes from Perpignan. 1 hour 45 minutes from Girona. Driving south
from Carcassonne on the Bis route to Perpignan you pass through Limoux, Alet-les-Bains
and Couiza. Immediately after Couiza there is a right turn signposted Montazel
and also Esperaza. Take this turn, go over the bridge and turn left at the T junction.
Drive 2km towards Esperaza. As you come into the village there is a grocery store
called Petit Casino on the left. The House is 30 metres after on the right. Drive
down the side street and you can park in the garden. Coming north from the other
direction you pass through Quillan and then Campagne Sur Aude. 3km later you will
see a left turn to Esperaza. Follow signs to the dinosaur museum or Mairie. We
are on a continuation of that street heading towards Montazel. The House is on
the left hand side about 500 metres from the Mairie.

If you
are travelling across the channel with your car consider SpeedferriesAfter
years of high prices by P&O, The Tunnel etc you can now cross the Channel for
£50 Return for a car and up to 6 passengers. There are no time limits and the
tickets are fully amendable for a £10 booking fee. The ferry leaves from Boulogne
and arrives in Dover. The crossing takes around 50 minutes and is made on one
of the new high speed catamarans. I took the crossing at Christmas and even though
the sea was pretty rough the crossing was excellent. I also made the trip in a
high top transit van in March one way and the cost was a whacking £34.
